Double skin crab

There are different seasons for eating crab in HK. now it is the 'double skin' crab season. The crab is changing its shell in this season, has the hard one and the new soft one as well. The cooking as we were explained is very simple, some spices - salt, pepper - and they are baked. And the result... delicious. It is normally not easy to eat crab, but this one is an exception. We barely had to use the scissors to cut the shell, it was very easy to remove.
We went to a restaurant at City University, one of my colleague is very experienced and well known for knowing where to buy good food. I am never disappointed when I join his dinner parties. It was a 3-4 course dinner this time, we started off with the crab, then had shrimps, fish, goose and dessert- fruits.
I wonder what the next adventure will be and when...

Clear Desk policy

The whole office received a message from our CEO regarding clear desk policy. No surprise about it, we should keep the office tidy, samples should be stored in cabinets, on shelves or in the showroom on hangers, confidential papers should be kept locked away in drawers, this we all know and I'm sure most people do try to follow. However we were requested not to keep things on desks at all, so we should put away all folders we use on a day-to-day basis every evening to cabinets / drawers. Pens, paper clips and all other stationary should be kept in drawers too and not on the desk. The partitions we have should be kept empty - most people keep phone numbers, calendars pinned on the partition, but now those should be removed.
So the office was / is very busy with scrapping old papers, putting away samples or collecting them for charity, so now we look better. The clean desk in terms of stationary and partitions on the other hand is a bit more difficult. There was 1 department who has tried to achieve it, the result is that if we walk on the corridor in the evening, it looks we have vacancies, as all the desks are empty, except the computers and phones.
So which solution is better, have a tidy office but leave some space for people to have the everyday items handy, or keep a completely organized office which looks like nobody works there?
I have things on my desk, papers are in folders, confidential material in my drawer locked up for the night, and stationary handy within reach. And I feel good and feel I belong there...

1 June 2010

I have forgot about this blog again, am so bad. :( Was reminded by Móni, who has found this blog by mistake and told me off for not telling her it exist. :)
Anyway, am still in HK, it's been more then a year now that I came here, and I was only suppose to stay for 6 months. My contract had been extended twice since I arrived and the 3rd one might be on the way too.
I am planning my holiday now - though it is not yet approved. My sis and goddaughter are coming for 2 weeks, I hope the weather will be good, so we can go out. Otherwise it will be boring. HK is not a place to stay inside, the only things to do if the weather is bad is shopping, eating and movie.
That's all for now...

Saturday 24 October

Another week has gone and things are not getting easier. We were interviewing for a vacancy in the project team and the only good candidate turned us down as she got a better offer. So now it is still only Denise and me. I got a small breakdown this week and realized that I had unrealistic expectations and it is better if I stop for a while as I am getting myself sick. I am loosing my voice and it started to worry people. A good things happened too though, my boss will stay with me until the end of this project. I am so so happy about it, I really do like working with/for him. He is getting the best out of me and he is guiding me to get to the right conclusion.
It is a 3 day weekend now luckily, so no work on Monday. I have not yet decided what I will do, possibly read and sunbath on the roof and might go to the zoo on Monday.
5 more wks to go here and then will be home for a while.
More updates later...

Thursday 15 Oct

Only 1 day to go and weekend!! Go hiking on Saturday with some colleagues, hope it will not be too hot.
Work is getting too much, feel a little lost at the moment and I guess I take things a little personnal. Sis is away in a spa with her friend, and I am jelous that I couldn't go. I think it is time to go home, though still have 6 weeks to go. Funny that I started to count the weeks, as so far I was oko in HK. Guess just need a little break. Will be good to sleep in my own bed, have some of my mom's cooking and tease the cat. I started to miss Hungarian things like túró rudi, funny eh? I also want to see Móni again, now that she is pregnant. :)

Hong Kong

Well, I am in Hong Kong since May this year, doing project management again. Never thought I will do it again after MY, but people have faith in me that I can do it.
Hong Kong is so far good, however loads of issues. 1 month after starting the go live date had been pushed to next year. Soon after that a the IT PM had been replaced. Things are no going so well so it is definitely time for a change for the better.
Hong Kong itself is a fascanating place to live at. Loads of places to see and loads of shopping to do :)
I have started to go to the gym and surprised everyone by taking body combat classes. I do enjoy it, it is great to get sweaty and to get rid of stress. I go twice a week, though sometimes it is difficult to leave the office to get to the class. Once I went in lunchtime-that was interesting.
I am gonna stay here for a while, though I go back home in December for 5 weeks.

Just a quick one

I nearly forgot about my blog, and have not written anything for long. Lot of things have happened, but I don't want to get into details. Some things have started, some others have finished.
4 of my friends have recently had babies - all very cute. Another friend of my is expecting, so this is a good start of this year.
I have completed my work in Malaysia and moved back to Budapest. Things have also changed at work, people left and no new ones have joined. This year will be very challanging.
A sad thing has happened as well, my dog had been put to sleep. I know she was old, but still felt so bad when it happened. The same day I was told that my contract will not be re-newed, so that was a very, very bad day.
I just hope that there will be something good for me this year, I would need something good in my life.
So, as the title says, this was just a quickie. Hopefully I will be better to keep this updated than last year.
